For over 135 years, Melbourne Town Hall has been at the physical and emotional heart of events that have celebrated the past and shaped the future of our city and state. Within the Town Hall Federation was debated, Nellie Melba debuted and the Beatles greeted adoring fans from the iconic balcony overlooking Swanston Street (today a much loved site for wedding ceremonies and cocktail parties). When you have your event or function with us, you will become part of this rich tapestry of history.

The Melbourne Town Hall offers a unique showcase destination for so many aspects of our city’s cultural, social and civic life. On any day, we will host theatrical performances, weddings, receptions, exhibitions, corporate launches, school concerts, conferences and cocktail parties.

The architecture and surrounds are a monument to the past, but our approach is contemporary and fresh. Our people deliver culinary and service excellence to create lasting impressions for events from 10 to 2000 guests with a choice of eight rooms and locations including the Main Hall, Yarra Room, Regent Rooms, and of course our Portico Balcony.

Main Hall is one of Melbourne Town Hall’s most impressive and glamorous function spaces. From the grandeur of the main staircase, absorb the elegance of Melbourne’s finest auditorium as you step into the adjoining marble foyer complete with stained glass windows. Inside, take some time to relish in the breathtaking majesty of the Main Hall where soaring seventy foot ceilings are crowned with spectacular chandeliers and the magnificent 800 seat balcony sweeps around walls adorned with delicate stencilling and authentic wood-panelling.

Main Hall’s centrepiece is one of the most beautiful pipe organs in the world; the largest in the southern hemisphere; Melbourne’s own original wood-carved Grand Organ. With a mighty stage, the Main Hall is the natural home for awe-inspiring extravaganzas, from full orchestras and choirs to multi-media product launches. Host a glittering dinner dance in an atmosphere your wedding guests will envy, and your corporate guests will admire. Or throw a cocktail party of the grandest kind and give your guests room to mingle. Even car launches are a breeze with a fully operational car lift straight into the main hall. Events held in the Main Hall live on in the echoes of Melbourne Town Hall, never to be forgotten.

The main auditorium is now equipped with assistive listening systems, this equipment enables individuals with limited hearing to receive a direct audio feed through a FM receiver. 16 individual receivers are available, with either an earphone or a neck loop attachment.
