SecondBite

SecondBite is committed to making a positive difference to people by identifying sources of nutritious surplus fresh food and produce that might otherwise go to waste and facilitating its safe and timely distribution to agencies and people in need.

In 2010 SecondBite collected 880 tonnes of fresh food that might otherwise have gone to waste.  With the generous support of 448 volunteers, enough food to provide 1.7million hearty meals was provided to 212 community food programs across Victoria and Tasmania.

Keeping their philosophy simple has enabled SecondBite to be extremely flexible in their collections, thus maximising the quality and quantity of food collected and minimising waste.

SecondBite believes passionately in working collaboratively with other agencies. Not only does this conserve precious resources, but it also ensures that for today and tomorrow all community groups, large and small, receive the best possible service and a get a 'fair go' at receiving good quality fresh nutritious food.

Many groups provide meals and food parcels for a wide range of cultural groups. Providing the raw ingredients allows each group and individual the freedom and dignity to decide what menus they wish to create.

EPICURE has been a regular donor of surplus food, providing SecondBite with healthy and nutritious meals that can be redistributed to people in need.
