SecondBite |
SecondBite is committed to making a positive difference to people by identifying sources of nutritious surplus fresh food and produce that might otherwise go to waste and facilitating its safe and timely distribution to agencies and people in need.
In 2012, SecondBite collected over 2 million kg of quality surplus fresh food that would otherwise have gone to waste and redistributed this to over 500 agencies and community food programs. This was enough high-quality food to provide 6 million hearty, nutritious meals to hungry men, women and their children in need.
Keeping their philosophy simple has enabled SecondBite to be extremely flexible in their collections, thus maximising the quality and quantity of food collected and minimising waste.
SecondBite believes passionately in working collaboratively with other agencies. Not only does this conserve precious resources, but it also ensures that for today and tomorrow all community groups, large and small, receive the best possible service and a get a 'fair go' at receiving good quality fresh nutritious food.
Many groups provide meals and food parcels for a wide range of cultural groups. Providing the raw ingredients allows each group and individual the freedom and dignity to decide what menus they wish to create.
SecondBite is very proud of our association with Epicure, working together to make a real difference to vulnerable people in our community by increasing their access to high quality fresh food and produce, to improve their health, well-being and social inclusion.
